Ableton Live is a digital audio workstation that supports the full workflow of creating, editing, and performing music and audio tracks. The software introduces new MIDI transformations that let users reshape patterns, add ornaments, and apply acceleration curves, as well as generators that can suggest melodies, chords, and rhythms within defined constraints. Max for Live extensions expand the available transformations and generators, providing deeper MIDI manipulation and the ability to create custom devices.

Live also supports alternative tuning systems and scale‑based workflows, enabling work outside standard 12‑tone equal temperament and keeping instruments in key. Updated devices, granular synthesis, and flexible modulation routing further enhance creative possibilities while maintaining an intuitive interface for both studio production and live performance.
