Air Video Server HD lets a computer act as a media server that streams video files directly to iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV without converting or transferring the files first. The server runs on macOS (OS X 10.8+) or Windows (XP SP3+), and the companion client app is a universal iOS application that can be installed on any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with a single purchase.

The software provides a modern streaming pipeline that supports H.264 passthrough, full 1080p HD, soft subtitles, and 5.1 surround sound, and it can send video to Apple TV via AirPlay. Users can download videos for offline playback, browse libraries with a grid view on iPad, and use searchable folders, playback history, and synchronized settings across devices. Multiple user accounts are supported, with secure internet access and encrypted traffic outside the local network.
