Apache Directory Studio

Apache Directory Studio is an Eclipse‑based client that provides a graphical interface for browsing and managing LDAP directories. It can connect to any LDAP server, displaying the directory tree and supporting creation, modification, and deletion of entries directly from the UI. The tool includes an LDIF editor with syntax highlighting and content assistance, as well as a schema editor for OpenLDAP‑format schemas, allowing users to edit attribute types and object classes.

In addition to client functionality, the suite bundles an embedded ApacheDS server, enabling rapid setup of a certified LDAPv3 server in seconds. A dedicated configuration editor lets users modify server configuration files such as server.xml and config.ldif, while an ACI editor supports defining access control instructions.

The application runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows and is built from modular Eclipse OSGi plugins that can be extended or run inside Eclipse itself. It is released under the Apache License, free to use, and positioned as a complete tooling platform for developers and administrators working with LDAP or Apache Directory Server.
