Apaxy

Theme built to enhance the experience of browsing web directories, using the mod_autoindex Apache module and some CSS to override the default style of a directory listing.

Apaxy provides a customisable visual layer for Apache’s mod_autoindex directory listings. By supplying CSS, optional JavaScript, and a set of HTML templates, it replaces the default table‑based layout with a more flexible appearance, allowing site owners to add welcome messages, download instructions, copyright notices, and custom MIME‑type icons through edits to the .htaccess file.

The theme is intended for administrators of Apache 2.4+ web servers who want to improve the look and feel of publicly browsable folders without changing the underlying directory structure. It works with any self‑hosted Apache instance, can be deployed manually or via the provided configuration script, and also offers a Docker‑based demo for quick testing.

Apaxy is released under GPL‑3.0, is open‑source, and classified as a stable utility. It supplies a set of HTML styling, header/footer HTML files, and a stylesheet that can be edited directly, giving users creative freedom over the visual presentation of their directory indexes while leaving the generated HTML table untouched.
