Ardour
Cross-platform audio software for multi-track recording and editing.
Ardour is a free, open‑source digital audio workstation that runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. It supports multi‑track recording and editing of both audio and MIDI, offering unlimited undo/redo, sample‑accurate automation, and a flexible mixer architecture that can be controlled by external surfaces. Users can import audio or MIDI files, cut, move, stretch, cross‑fade and quantize material, and then mix with EQ, dynamics, sends and routing options before mastering and exporting the final product.
The software targets audio engineers, musicians, soundtrack editors, composers, podcasters and radio producers who need complete control over their workflow. It provides a video timeline with transport sync for film and video work, and integrates a search of the Freesound database for easy access to additional samples. Ardour’s design emphasizes precision, extensibility and a unified interface for both audio and MIDI tasks.
Ardour’s core is stable and community‑driven, offering documentation, support forums and the ability for contributors to extend its functionality through plugins and external control surfaces.
