Ascension

Ascension III is a macOS‑only viewer and editor for ANSI and ASCII art files. It builds on the AnsiLove/C codebase and can open a broad set of formats such as ANS, BIN, ADF, IDF, XB, PCB, TND, ASC, NFO, DIZ and generic text files. The application also includes a simple text editor that handles legacy encodings like Codepage 437 as well as modern Unicode, allowing users to both view and maintain text‑mode creations.

The program renders artworks with high‑resolution accuracy on Retina displays and can export the displayed content to optimized PNG images. Integrated font support includes a recreation of the original DOS font (BlockZone) and other classic typefaces, while multi‑color themes and SAUCE record handling provide additional visual customization. Advanced options let users override .BIN column widths, enable iCE colors, and adjust custom bits.

Released under the BSD 3‑Clause License, Ascension III targets developers, artists, and hobbyists who work with retro text‑mode graphics and need reliable rendering, editing, and export capabilities on macOS.
