BookStack

Organize and store information. Stores documentation in a book like fashion.

BookStack is a self‑hosted, open‑source platform for organizing and storing information in a structure that resembles books, chapters, and pages. Its web interface offers a WYSIWYG editor, optional Markdown support, and built‑in diagrams.net for creating visual content directly within pages. Content is fully searchable across all levels, and any paragraph can be linked, enabling easy navigation and connection between documents.

The system is designed for simplicity and low resource requirements, running on PHP/Laravel with MySQL and capable of operating on inexpensive virtual servers. Configuration options let administrators customize the name, logo, registration settings, and public visibility, while a comprehensive role and permission model controls access and actions. Authentication integrates with email/password, OIDC, SAML2, LDAP, and social providers, and supports multi‑factor authentication with TOTP or backup codes.

BookStack supports multiple languages, dark and light UI themes, and includes features such as page revisions, image management, and cross‑book sorting. It is released under the MIT license, free to download and install, and maintained by a community of contributors.
