Boring Notch

Boring Notch repurposes the small display notch on macOS laptops as an interactive control hub. It overlays music playback controls, showing album artwork and allowing play, pause, and track skipping directly in the notch. Calendar events and meeting reminders appear there as well, giving quick visibility of upcoming appointments.

The utility also adds a miniature camera preview that can be used before video calls, and a battery indicator with visual cues to help avoid unexpected shutdowns. Users can drag files onto the notch to initiate sharing, and the standard macOS brightness and volume HUDs are replaced by custom sliders that blend with the notch’s visual style.

All visual elements feature animated colors and blur effects that adapt to the current music or system theme, aiming for a seamless, native‑looking experience. The project is open‑source, free to use, and marked as stable.
