Comma Chameleon

Comma Chameleon is a desktop‑only CSV editor aimed at data publishers who need a lightweight tool for creating and maintaining comma‑separated files. It provides basic editing capabilities such as adding and removing rows and entering cell values, without the broader calculations or charting features of a spreadsheet program. The application is built for macOS and is considered stable.

A key feature is on‑the‑fly validation using CSVlint, allowing users to check that their files conform to CSV standards before distribution. When a dataset is ready, the program can package the CSV as a Data Package, facilitating reuse and downstream processing. Integration with Octopub enables one‑click publishing to GitHub, where a simple web page is generated to accompany the data.

The software originated as a proof of concept by The ODI and has since been superseded by Data Curator on GitHub, but it remains available for download on macOS, Windows, and Linux platforms.
