FromScratch

FromScratch is a lightweight note‑taking and todo application that focuses on the text you type. It automatically saves your content as you type, eliminating the need for manual saves. The editor supports automatic indentation, note folding, and checkbox toggles for managing tasks, and it can replace common syntax with symbols such as arrows. Users can switch between dark and light themes, and a portable mode allows the app to be run without installation.

The interface includes a set of keyboard shortcuts for navigating and editing, such as moving lines, deleting lines, zooming text, folding sections, searching with regular expressions, and jumping to specific lines. It also offers fullscreen toggling and a menu visibility shortcut on Windows. The shortcut overview is accessible via the F1 key.

FromScratch is built with Electron, React, Fira Code, CodeMirror, and the electron‑react‑boilerplate, and it is released as open‑source software. It is available for macOS, Linux (deb, AppImage, Snap), and Windows, with source code hosted on GitHub for issue tracking and contributions.
