Icecast 2
Streaming audio/video server which can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox and many things in between.
Icecast is a self‑hosted multimedia streaming server that supports audio and video formats such as Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Theora, Opus, WebM and MP3. It receives streams from source applications and redistributes them to listeners over HTTP, allowing the creation of public Internet radio stations, private jukeboxes, or any other use case that requires real‑time media delivery.
The server follows open standards for communication and interaction, making it straightforward to add new codecs and integrate with existing tools. Configuration files from earlier 2.4 releases remain compatible, and the recent 2.5 series introduces a web interface with optional dark mode, listener statistics, and support for X‑Forwarded‑For and TLS handling under high load.
Distributed under the GPL‑2.0 license, Icecast is free, open‑source software without subscription or tiered pricing. It is maintained by Xiph.Org and targets developers, broadcasters, and hobbyists who need a flexible, standards‑compliant solution for streaming audio or video from their own infrastructure.
