Jazz² Resurrection
Open-source re-implementation of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 game engine
Jazz² Resurrection recreates the 1998 Jazz Jackrabbit 2 engine as an open‑source project that runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, Xbox (UWP) and web browsers via Emscripten. It can load the original game’s data files—including Shareware Demo, Holiday Hare ’98, The Secret Files and Christmas Chronicles—and offers partial compatibility with JJ2+ extensions and MLLE. Users must place the original game’s assets in a designated folder and then launch the appropriate executable for their platform.
The software provides multiple build configurations, supporting both GLFW and SDL2 backends, and offers optimized binaries for various CPU instruction sets such as SSE2 and AVX2. It requires a GPU with OpenGL 3.3 support on desktop systems and Android 5.0+ with OpenGL 3.0. Experimental builds are generated automatically from GitHub Actions, containing unreleased features that may be unstable.
Developers and hobbyists interested in preserving or modifying classic platformers can compile the source from the GitHub repository, and the project includes documentation for building on each supported platform. The code is released under an open‑source license, allowing community contributions and further extensions.
