Kiwix
App providing offline access to Wikipedia and many other web sites
Kiwix delivers offline access to a broad collection of free educational content, most notably Wikipedia, by using the ZIM file format to compress and store web pages for use without an Internet connection. The software includes a reader application that lets users browse, search, and navigate the cached material on macOS, and it can be paired with other Kiwix tools such as hotspots, servers, and content bundles to support larger deployments.
The project is aimed at individuals, schools, libraries, and organizations that need reliable access to knowledge in environments with limited or no connectivity. By providing a self‑contained repository of articles and media, Kiwix enables learning, research, and reference work regardless of network availability.
Kiwix is an open‑source, community‑driven initiative maintained by a nonprofit organization. Its code and content are freely available, encouraging contributions and customization, while its suite of related services and applications supports a range of offline use cases from personal devices to institutional installations.
