MusicBrainz Picard
Cross-platform music tagger written in Python.
A cross‑platform tagger written in Python that uses the MusicBrainz database to retrieve accurate metadata for music files. It can read and write tags for many common audio formats such as MP3, FLAC, OGG, M4A, WMA, WAV and others. By generating AcoustID fingerprints, the program can identify tracks from the audio content itself, even when existing tags are missing or incorrect.
The tool also supports CD lookups, allowing an entire disc to be identified and tagged with a single click, and it can download matching cover art for albums. A built‑in scripting language lets users define custom naming schemes and tag layouts, while a plugin system provides additional functionality or the ability to add new features.
Designed for users who want to organize and clean their music collections, the software is open source under GPL 2.0 (or later) and is actively maintained on GitHub. It runs on multiple operating systems and offers a free tier for all users.
