Notable

The markdown-based note-taking app that doesn't suck.

Notable stores each note as a plain text file written in GitHub‑Flavored Markdown, allowing inclusion of KaTeX expressions, Mermaid diagrams and other extensions. The editor is built on the same component used by VS Code, providing multi‑cursor editing, a minimap and syntax highlighting. Because notes and their attachments reside on the local filesystem, users can edit them with any editor, synchronize them through services like Dropbox, version them with Git, or perform regex‑based search and replace across the entire collection.

The application offers a clean interface with a dark theme and a Zen mode that hides non‑essential UI elements for a minimalistic writing experience. Keyboard navigation is emphasized through features such as quick‑open and an upcoming command palette, reducing reliance on mouse clicks. A multi‑note editor enables batch actions—favoriting, pinning, deleting, tagging—while a split‑view lets users preview rendered Markdown side by side with the source.

Notable is aimed at users who prefer markdown‑centric note taking without proprietary formats, need robust search and bulk‑edit capabilities, and appreciate a lightweight, theme‑aware desktop client that keeps data fully portable on disk.
