The software provides free, open‑source tools for capturing video and audio, mixing multiple sources, and encoding the result in high‑quality H264/AAC formats. Users can create scenes composed of windows, images, text, browsers, webcams, capture cards and other inputs, then switch between them with custom transitions. An audio mixer offers per‑source filters such as noise gate, noise suppression and gain, and supports VST plugins for additional processing.

It runs on macOS (12.0 or newer), Windows 10/11 and Linux, and includes a modular dock UI that can be rearranged or popped out into separate windows. Features such as hotkeys, Studio Mode preview, Multiview monitoring of up to eight scenes, and extensive configuration options enable precise control over live streams and recordings. An extensible API allows developers to add native plugins or Lua/Python scripts, fostering community‑driven customization and integration with many streaming platforms.
