OpenPHT
Community-driven fork of Plex Home Theater
OpenPHT is a community‑driven continuation of the Plex Home Theater codebase, built on the XBMC (now Kodi) media player framework. It delivers a full‑featured entertainment hub that runs on macOS, allowing users to play a wide range of audio and video formats, including CDs, DVDs, and files inside ZIP or RAR archives. The software can stream media over a local network or directly from the internet using many supported protocols.
The application automatically scans and organizes media libraries, enriching entries with cover art, descriptions, fanart, and metadata. It also offers playlists, slideshows, weather forecasts, and audio visualizations, making it suitable for home‑theater PCs and couch‑side control via a variety of remote devices. The skinning engine lets users customize the interface to their preferences.
OpenPHT is maintained by volunteers and is available under the GPL, with documentation covering platform‑specific build instructions. Its stability and macOS focus make it a practical choice for users seeking an open‑source, network‑enabled media center.
