OpenSuperWhisper

Whisper dictation/transcription app

Source

The application runs on macOS and captures audio in real time, feeding it to the Whisper model (or the alternative Parakeet engine) to produce live transcription. Users can select any microphone—including built‑in, external, Bluetooth, or iPhone via Apple Continuity—directly from the menu bar, and the app can also process dragged‑and‑dropped audio files in a queued fashion. Transcriptions support multiple languages with automatic detection, and Asian language autocorrect is applied through an integrated library.

Control is provided via global keyboard shortcuts that can be configured as a key combination or a single modifier key. A hold‑to‑record mode lets users start recording by holding the shortcut and stop by releasing it, while background operation keeps the app unobtrusive. Model files are downloadable from within the app, and additional Whisper binaries can be placed in the models directory for manual selection.

The software is distributed under the MIT License, targets Apple Silicon/ARM64 macOS, and can be installed via Homebrew or a GitHub release. Development notes include building instructions, contribution guidelines, and a roadmap of planned features such as streaming transcription and custom dictionaries.
