Prudent offers a desktop‑only environment for managing personal and family financial ledgers using plain‑text accounting files. It reads and writes Ledger‑compatible transaction files, allowing users to import data from bank accounts, stocks, CPF, and property records, then automatically updates reports as edits are saved. The interface shows an editor on the left and a resizable report view on the right, so users can see balances, interest calculations, and other analyses without switching windows.

The application is built for macOS and runs locally, giving users full control over file storage, versioning, encryption, and backups. Because the ledger data remains ordinary text files, they can be managed with standard tools such as Git and edited with any preferred text editor. Prudent supports multiple commodities, letting users track different currencies, shares, or custom symbols, and it can present reports either converted to a single chosen currency or showing each commodity separately.

A visual account tree lets users explore financial hierarchies, expanding or collapsing nodes to see balances at any depth. Integrated reporting, commodity summaries, and depth‑aware views aim to simplify the workflow for individuals and families who prefer a flexible, locally‑hosted accounting solution.
