RERO ILS

Large-scale ILS that can be run as a service with consortial features, intended primarily for library networks. Includes most standard modules (circulation, acquisitions, cataloging,...) and a web-based public and professional interface.

RERO ILS provides a full suite of integrated library system modules—including circulation, acquisitions, cataloguing, and search—delivered as a self‑hostable service that supports consortial configurations for multiple libraries. It offers both a public web interface for patrons and a professional interface for staff, allowing management of document lifecycles and user interactions within heritage, public, or school library networks.

The system is built on open‑source components such as Invenio, Flask, Angular, and Elasticsearch, and it replaces legacy MARC‑based workflows with natural‑language field labels, RDA compliance, and a multilingual authority file that leverages VIAF. Development began in 2017, with a stable first major release in 2020 and production use in several Swiss and Belgian library networks since 2021.

Released under the AGPL‑3.0 license, RERO ILS is free to use and modify, with no subscription requirement. It is actively maintained by a professional team, includes translation support, and provides documentation and a live demo for evaluation.
