Satellite Eyes
Changes your desktop wallpaper to the satellite view of where you are
Satellite Eyes is a macOS utility that replaces the desktop background with a live satellite image of the user’s current location. It obtains the device’s position through macOS Location Services, which relies on Wi‑Fi triangulation and an internet connection. When the location is determined, the app fetches a map tile from providers such as Stamen Design, MapBox, Thunderforest, Bing Maps, or Google Maps and sets it as the wallpaper. If the user prefers not to display their immediate surroundings, the app can instead cycle through a curated collection of global sights.
The software supports multiple monitors, automatically spanning the fetched image across the full screen width. Users can choose among various visual styles, ranging from true aerial photography to stylized watercolor renderings. All map sources are accessed through the respective providers’ APIs, and the application is distributed as a free, open‑source package with the code hosted on GitHub.
Installation is available via a downloadable package or through Homebrew using a cask. The app can be configured to launch at login, and it provides a straightforward method for complete removal, including deletion of cached images and preference files from the user’s Library directory.
