Scid vs. Mac
Chess toolkit
Scid vs. Mac is a chess database and toolkit for macOS that lets users build extensive game collections, run chess engines, and play casual matches against the computer or online via the Free Internet Chess Server. The software offers a customizable interface with drag‑and‑drop file opening, a rewritten gamelist widget, and integrated database switching. It supports engine‑versus‑engine tournaments, unlimited simultaneous engine instances, and detailed search options such as move, end‑of‑game, stalemate, and checkmate queries.
Additional features include tri‑coloured tree bar‑graphs, multi‑player rating graphs, and various statistical visualisations. Users can configure board pieces and custom tiles, compare opening books, and annotate games with searchable depth. The tool also provides premove support, simultaneous observed games, and improved handling of UTF and Latin character sets in PGN import/export. Although primarily focused on standard chess, a source‑code patch adds limited Chess960/Fischer Chess support. The project is maintained by Stevenaaus and a community of contributors, with stable releases available for macOS.
