The platform provides AI‑driven semantic search across a digitized collection of American newspapers spanning from the 1730s to the 1960s. Users can query by meaning, concepts, events, or themes, and the system returns relevant articles even when exact keywords are absent. Filters for categories, sub‑categories, states, and dates allow further refinement of results.

In addition to search, the service offers curated collections and a public repository of other researchers’ compilations, enabling exploration of connections across centuries of history. An AI assistant, referred to as “The Sleuth,” can answer questions with citations and retrieve relevant passages from the archive on the user’s behalf.

The archive contains over six million stories from more than three thousand newspaper titles, organized into thousands of categories and sub‑categories. A daily “Today in History” feature presents a timeline of events reported on the current date, drawn directly from the historical newspapers.
