snwe
Extensible, customisable, menu bar replacement
snwe is a macOS menu‑bar replacement that consolidates system information, application switching, music control, date, time, and basic monitoring into a single, always‑visible widget. Its modular architecture lets users add or replace indicators and graphic themes, while a wal‑responsive adaptive colour scheme can automatically match the desktop’s palette. The default setup includes an application launcher, a music player interface compatible with mpd, iTunes or Spotify, and indicators for volume, Wi‑Fi and battery status.
The bar targets macOS users who want a customizable, extensible alternative to the native menu bar, especially those comfortable with npm or Homebrew for installation and development. Prebuilt binaries can be run directly, while the npm workflow enables deeper customisation of indicators, themes and colour schemes. Optional external tools such as chunkwm, mpd and pywal enhance functionality but are not required for basic operation.
Because each indicator is a separate module extending a common class, developers can create new widgets or modify existing ones with minimal effort. Themes and colour schemes are stored as CSS files, allowing visual tweaks without altering code. The project is marked stable and actively maintained.
