SteerMouse

SteerMouse is a macOS utility that lets users assign custom actions to mouse buttons, wheel movements, and cursor speed for both USB and Bluetooth devices, excluding Apple’s Magic Mouse and Trackpad. It supports up to 24 functions per button, chorded combinations of buttons and modifier keys, and per‑application profiles, allowing actions such as keyboard shortcuts, double‑click variants, scroll direction changes, zoom controls, application switching, system navigation, music playback, and opening files or URLs.

The program also provides fine‑grained control over cursor dynamics, offering separate sensitivity and tracking settings, as well as acceleration and sensitivity adjustments for scrolling. Features like auto‑scroll, hands‑free scroll, and cursor snapping to UI elements aim to make movement smoother and keep the pointer visible during window transitions.

SteerMouse includes a “Recommended Settings” list derived from user data to help find optimal cursor behavior, and it offers options not found in standard mouse drivers, such as auto‑click and configurable scroll ball behavior for trackballs.
