SuperDB

SuperDB is an analytics database that treats relational tables and JSON data equally, allowing users to ingest heterogeneous JSON, CSV, Parquet, Arrow streams, and other formats without requiring a predefined schema. It stores all values as strongly and dynamically typed “super‑structured” data, combining the flexibility of document models with the performance of relational systems. The engine processes this unified data model in a single runtime, supporting both static relational types and dynamic JSON types.

The system uses an extended SQL dialect called SuperSQL, which adds pipe syntax and shortcut operators to simplify complex data‑wrangling pipelines. Queries can chain data sources, perform aggregations, and join external APIs in a single statement, as illustrated by a multi‑step GitHub Archive example. SuperSQL aims for Postgres compatibility while evolving its syntax and optimizer through community input.

SuperDB is distributed as a dependency‑free binary that runs on macOS, with support for reading and writing common data formats and proprietary SUP, BSUP, and CSUP representations. Documentation and installation guides are available online, and the project welcomes feedback via its community Slack.
