SyncTERM

BBS terminal program

Visit

SyncTERM is a BBS terminal emulator that runs on Windows, Linux, OpenBSD, NetBSD, OS X, and FreeBSD. It provides full‑screen operation with mode switching via Alt‑Enter and supports a wide range of BBS character sets, including ANSI‑BBS, CGTerm Commodore 64 PETSCII, Atari 8‑bit ATASCII, and IBM graphics. The program handles various connection types such as Telnet, RLogin, SSH, RAW, modem, shell (Unix only), and direct serial links, and it can auto‑login to Synchronet RLogin sessions.

The client offers multiple screen dimensions—from 80×25 up to 132×60—mouse‑driven menus, copy/paste, and a scrollback buffer. It includes ANSI music playback through the sound card, character pacing for ANSI animation, and support for 43 standard fonts plus custom fonts via Fontraption. Additional features cover X/Y/ZModem file transfers, phone‑book management, and the ability to change fonts dynamically during a session.

Targeted at hobbyists and developers who access bulletin board systems, SyncTERM emphasizes compatibility with legacy BBS graphics and protocols while providing a modern, configurable interface across many operating systems. Stable releases are available for download, and source code can be obtained from the project's repository.
