Tabby (formerly Terminus)
Free terminal tool, built with TypeScript, heavily inspired by Hyper.
Tabby is a cross‑platform terminal emulator written in TypeScript that combines a conventional terminal window with integrated SSH, Telnet and serial connections. It runs on Windows 10, macOS and Linux and supports a range of shells such as PowerShell, WSL, Git‑Bash, Cygwin and CMD, offering features like split panes, tab management, customizable shortcuts and full Unicode rendering. The application also provides theming, color schemes, font ligatures and a “Quake‑style” dockable console that can be summoned with a global hotkey.
For remote work, Tabby includes an SSH2 client with a connection manager, X11 and port forwarding, jump‑host handling, agent forwarding and login scripts, plus direct file transfer via Zmodem. Its serial terminal supports saved connections, line‑editing, hex input and automatic reconnection. The program stores SSH secrets in an encrypted container and can be used as a web app or self‑hosted service.
Tabby is positioned as a configurable alternative to native terminals and tools like PuTTY, focusing on extensibility through plugins, themes and multi‑chord shortcuts rather than replacing shells or providing a lightweight footprint.
