Technitium DNS Server

Authoritative/recursive DNS server with ad blocking functionality.

The software provides a self‑hosted DNS service that can act as both an authoritative and a recursive resolver, allowing users to manage domain name resolution for their own network. It includes a web‑based administration console that runs in any modern browser and requires little to no initial configuration. By operating locally, it prevents external DNS providers, including ISPs, from observing or altering queries, and it can forward requests to public resolvers using encrypted protocols such as DNS‑over‑TLS, DNS‑over‑HTTPS, or DNS‑over‑QUIC.

A built‑in ad and malware blocking feature lets administrators import one or more block‑list URLs, applying the filters network‑wide at the DNS level. The server supports high‑throughput operation on commodity hardware, offers clustering to manage multiple instances from a single console, and integrates Single Sign‑On via OpenID Connect. It runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, Raspberry Pi (arm7) and is available as a Docker image.

The project is released under GPL‑3.0, is open source, and is positioned for users who want privacy‑focused, controllable DNS resolution without subscription fees. It is suitable for home networks, small offices, or larger organizations that need detailed DNS logging, performance caching, and the ability to enforce domain‑level policies.
