The program monitors macOS Time Machine backups, scanning the system log every thirty minutes for error entries. When an error is detected it records the offending file or folder and presents a report that includes a button to open the problematic directory. Users can also view the current and previous logs, launch Time Machine preferences, or start Disk Utility directly from the interface.

It can operate continuously in the background and, if configured, will send an email notification whenever a backup problem occurs. The application is a 64‑bit universal binary, supporting both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs across macOS versions from Sierra through Sequoia, Ventura, Catalina, a third, capabilities and to backup is primarily intended for anyone who wants more insight into Time Machine failures, allowing them to address the specific cause rather than merely dismissing the alert.
