Transmission

Transmission provides a lightweight BitTorrent client that runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux, BSD and other Unix‑like systems. It offers a graphical interface built with GTK+, Qt or native macOS APIs, as well as a headless daemon and a web UI for remote control. The client supports typical torrent features such as watch directories, peer blocklists, tracker editing, speed limits and a web‑based remote interface.

The software is distributed under the GPL‑3.0 license, is free of subscription fees, and can be self‑hosted on servers or routers. It includes command‑line tools—transmission‑remote, transmission‑show, transmission‑create and transmission‑edit—for scripting and managing torrents without a GUI. The project provides source code and build instructions for macOS, Windows and Linux.

Transmission is designed for low resource consumption, making it suitable for desktop machines, home NAS devices and embedded routers. Its open‑source, volunteer‑driven development model emphasizes privacy, with no bundled advertising or telemetry, and it follows the native UI guidelines of each platform.
