Aide
Open-source AI-native IDE
Aide is an open‑source code editor built on a fork of VS Code that adds tightly integrated AI functionality through the Sidecar agentic framework. It enables a combined chat and edit workflow, allowing developers to discuss a problem in a chat pane while referencing files and then apply edits that may span multiple files. The editor also runs proactive agents that respond to linter diagnostics and use language‑server information such as go‑to‑definition to suggest fixes or request additional context.
Key interactive features include an inline editing widget invoked with a keyboard shortcut, context‑aware code completion powered by modern AI models, and AST‑based navigation that lets users jump between logical code blocks instead of individual lines. These capabilities aim to streamline coding tasks while keeping the user in control of the development process.
The project is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, targets macOS, and is marked as stable though it is no longer actively maintained. The source code remains available for forking, experimentation, or contribution via the repository’s issue tracker and pull‑request workflow.
