AVIFQuickLook

AVIFQuickLook is a macOS Quick Look plugin that enables the operating system to generate thumbnails and preview images in the AVIF format, including support for 10‑bit HDR content. When installed, AVIF files appear with visual thumbnails in Finder and can be opened with the space‑bar preview, allowing users to inspect AVIF images without launching a separate viewer.

The plugin targets macOS 10.11 and newer, running on both Intel and Apple‑silicon Macs. Installation can be performed via Homebrew Cask or manually by copying the compiled qlgenerator bundle into the appropriate QuickLook directory. Uninstallation follows the same paths, and a quarantine‑attribute command is provided for troubleshooting blank previews on recent macOS releases.

AVIFQuickLook relies on the libavif and aom libraries for decoding and incorporates the SDWebImageAVIFCoder for image handling. It is distributed under the MIT license, with source code and binaries available on GitHub.
