Buku
Browser-independent bookmark manager.
Buku provides a command‑line interface for managing personal bookmarks independent of any web browser. It stores URLs together with automatically fetched titles, tags and descriptions, and can import existing bookmarks from browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, Vivaldi, Brave and Edge. Users edit entries with their preferred text editor, search them instantly using substring, regular‑expression or deep‑scan modes, and open results in a browser; broken links can be resolved via the Wayback Machine.
The tool maintains a portable, merge‑able database that can be synchronized across machines, and supports import and export in formats including HTML, XBEL, Markdown, RSS/Atom and Org. Tag handling includes redirection syntax, and the program offers multi‑threaded refresh, optional manual encryption, shell‑completion scripts and a comprehensive manual page. A lightweight web front‑end called bukuserver can expose a local browsable interface for those who prefer a GUI.
Buku is released under GPL‑v3, is available as a Python library, and emphasizes privacy by avoiding any tracking, analytics or hidden data collection. It is considered stable and can be installed from package managers or directly from source.
