Camera Live
Syphon server for connected Canon DSLR cameras
The application runs on macOS and creates a Syphon server that streams the Live View output from a connected Canon DSLR. By exposing the camera’s video feed through Syphon, other software that can consume Syphon sources—such as video‑mixing or virtual‑camera tools—can use the DSLR as a live source without requiring a capture card. The program communicates with the camera over USB, relying on Canon’s EDSDK and libjpeg‑turbo for image handling, and it includes a pre‑built Syphon framework.
Typical latency for supported models, such as the Canon 7D, is around 120 ms, comparable to the delay of an HDMI capture device. The software supports only Canon DSLRs listed in its documentation; newer models may lack support until updated builds are released. Users must ensure the camera’s firmware is current, disable any Wi‑Fi/NFC modes, and avoid USB hubs to achieve reliable operation.
The project is archived and no longer maintained, so developers wishing to continue development should start from the libgphoto2 branch. Source builds require the EDSDK, libjpeg‑turbo, and Syphon framework, and the repository provides instructions for assembling these dependencies and signing the resulting macOS bundle.
