The plugin enables macOS to treat a DSLR or mirrorless camera as a standard video source, allowing the higher‑quality optics of those devices to be used for video calls, live streams, or recordings. After installing the package, the camera is accessed through the system’s CoreMedia framework and appears as a selectable video source in applications such as QuickTime Player, Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams and Chrome‑based conferencing tools.

Users can adjust camera settings from a menu‑bar status item and view a live preview, with full control of image parameters on supported Nikon FX/DX and Canon EOS models, and limited control on supported Sony Alpha cameras. Since version 1.3.0 the plugin also works with UVC‑class webcams. The software is open source, distributed as a binary installer for macOS, and includes an uninstaller script for clean removal.
