Chirpy
Privacy-friendly and customizable Disqus (comment system) alternate.
The software provides a self‑hosted comment widget that can replace services such as Disqus on websites and blogs. It stores comments on the host’s own infrastructure, offering a privacy‑first experience where users may sign in anonymously, with an email magic link, or via social providers, and no tracking or data selling occurs. The widget supports rich‑text formatting, markdown shortcuts, real‑time updates, and mobile‑friendly rendering.
Administrators can tailor the appearance to match their site’s design and control moderation through built‑in tools, anti‑toxic filters, and analytics that track engagement. Email and web‑push notifications keep participants informed of replies and activity. The system is built with TypeScript, Next.js, tRPC, Prisma, TailwindCSS, and other modern web technologies.
All code is released under the AGPL‑3.0 license, allowing anyone to inspect, modify, and run the platform without subscription fees. It is positioned for communities that need an open‑source, customizable, and privacy‑oriented alternative to commercial comment services.
