remark42
Lightweight and simple comment engine, which doesn't spy on users. It can be embedded into blogs, articles or any other place where readers add comments.
Remark42 provides a self‑hosted comment system that can be embedded into blogs, articles, or any web page where readers need to leave feedback. It stores all data in a single file, avoiding external databases, and can be run via Docker or a native executable on Linux, Windows, and macOS. The interface supports both tree‑style and flat comment views, markdown formatting, drag‑and‑drop image uploads, and multi‑level nesting.
Authentication options include social logins (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, GitHub, Apple, Yandex, Patreon, Discord, Telegram, and custom OAuth2), email login, and optional anonymous access. Moderators can remove comments, block users, and use voting, pinning, and verification features. The system offers RSS feeds, JSON backups, and notifications through Telegram, Slack, email, or webhooks for both admins and users.
Privacy is emphasized: only minimal user data (hashed ID, username, proxied avatar) is retained, no third‑party analytics are used, and JWT cookies protect sessions. Users can export or delete their data, and the service supports multi‑site deployment with automatic SSL integration.
