Lemmy
Link aggregator for the fediverse (alternative to Reddit).
Lemmy is a federated link‑aggregator and discussion platform that operates across the fediverse. Users create accounts on any Lemmy server, subscribe to communities, post links or text, vote, and engage in threaded comments, with the same core interactions found on sites such as Reddit. Because each server is independent yet interoperable, a user on one instance can follow and participate in communities hosted elsewhere, while server operators retain full control over moderation policies.
The software is released under the AGPL‑3.0 license and is designed for self‑hosting. It can be deployed easily with Docker or Ansible, and its Rust‑based backend runs with low resource consumption, making it suitable for modest hardware such as a Raspberry Pi. A web interface and native apps for iOS, Android, and desktop provide a mobile‑friendly experience, and the platform supports multiple languages, them, emoji autocomplete, image uploading, email notifications, and RSS/Atom feeds.
Lemmy emphasizes a non‑commercial, community‑driven model: there is no advertising, tracking, or corporate control, and moderation actions are transparent via a mod log. The open‑source codebase invites contributions and custom extensions, allowing operators to tailor the service to their own moderation standards and feature ideas.
