Clock Signal
Latency-hating emulator of 8- and 16-bit platforms
Clock Signal emulates a wide range of 8‑ and 16‑bit computers and consoles, aiming to make classic software run as if it were a native desktop application. Users can launch disks, tapes, or ROMs with a simple double‑click, and the emulator automatically detects the appropriate machine, configures it, and performs accelerated loading without requiring manual setup or importing files.
The project emphasizes faithful signal‑processing recreation of original video and audio. Composite video outputs are decoded to preserve the visual artifacts of the source hardware, and audio is generated at the native sampling rates before being filtered for the host system. This approach provides a more authentic reproduction than typical post‑processing filters.
Supported platforms include macOS (native Cocoa and Metal), Linux, BSD, and other UNIX‑like systems (OpenGL with Qt or SDL), with a Snap package available for Linux. The emulator currently covers systems such as the Acorn Electron, Apple II series, Atari 2600 and ST, Commodore Vic‑20, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and many others, while additional machines are slated for future release.
