Retro Virtual Machine
ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC emulator
Retro Virtual Machine emulates a range of classic 8‑bit computers and consoles, including the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, MSX‑1, SG‑1000, Sega Master System, ColecoVision, Amstrad CPC Plus and GX‑4000. It runs on Windows, macOS (with Apple Silicon support), Linux and Raspberry Pi, offering accurate hardware recreation such as VDP timing for Sega systems and correct PAL/NTSC aspect ratios for MSX‑1. The emulator handles large ZIP archives, allowing users to drag and drop entire game collections and quickly locate programs.
The interface supports high‑resolution displays, including Retina and 4K screens, and adds visual features like a cassette counter. An embedded component called RVMPlayer provides a lightweight way to run ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC titles within other applications. The software is marked as stable and is actively maintained, with a forthcoming v2.2 planned for later in the year.
Target users are hobbyists, retro‑gaming enthusiasts, and developers who need a reliable, cross‑platform environment for playing or testing software from the listed vintage systems.
