Colemak-DH Keyboard Layout
Colemak mod for more comfortable typing (DH variant)
Colemak‑DH is a variant of the Colemak keyboard layout that adjusts the placement of a few keys to improve typing ergonomics. It repositions the frequently used D and H keys to more comfortable, easier‑to‑reach locations, moves G to a position similar to QWERTY, and applies an “Angle Mod” to Z, X, and C to promote a more symmetrical hand posture. The layout keeps the same finger assignments as standard Colemak, preserving its low rate of same‑finger bigrams while reducing reliance on the central column by roughly half.
The project provides separate implementations for ISO, ANSI, and matrix‑style keyboards, with visual guides that color‑code keys by finger and highlight the ten most common English letters on the easiest positions. These resources help users visualise the changes and adopt the layout with minimal learning curve.
Colemak‑DH targets typists who already use Colemak or who seek a more comfortable alternative to QWERTY, especially on macOS where the layout is offered as a stable utility. It is intended for anyone wanting ergonomic benefits without relearning finger assignments.
