Cool Retro Term
Terminal emulator mimicking the old cathode display
cool‑retro‑term provides a terminal emulator that reproduces the visual appearance of historic cathode‑ray tube displays. It renders text with configurable phosphor‑like colors, vintage‑style fonts and optional visual effects such as scan‑lines and flicker, aiming for an eye‑candy yet lightweight experience. The emulator is built on the QML port of qtermwidget (the widget used by Konsole) and runs on Linux and macOS, requiring Qt 6.
Users can adjust colors, fonts and visual effects through a context‑menu‑driven settings panel, allowing quick experimentation with different retro looks without leaving the terminal. The project distributes pre‑built binaries as AppImage for Linux and DMG for macOS, and it is also available in the official repositories of many Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, Fedora and Arch.
Development documentation includes build instructions for both Linux and macOS, and the source code is hosted on GitHub. The software is marked as stable and is intended for developers or enthusiasts who want a nostalgic visual style while working in a terminal.
