Docspell
Auto-tagging document organizer and archive.
Docspell is a self‑hosted document management system that helps individuals and small groups organize files from scanners, email, or other sources. It stores PDFs and images, runs OCR when needed, and makes the full text searchable. The application provides a mobile‑friendly web interface and a REST/HTTP API, with optional Android and command‑line clients for uploading documents.
Metadata is added through tags, correspondents, dates and custom fields. To reduce manual effort, Docspell uses machine‑learning models from Stanford CoreNLP to suggest tags, infer dates and identify correspondents from existing documents. It can also learn metadata patterns from the current collection.
The software is released under GPL‑3.0, runs on Debian‑based systems, Docker, Nix, or Helm, and requires no subscription. It targets home users, families, and small teams that need a free, open‑source solution for archiving and retrieving personal documents.
