Drop to GIF

Drop to GIF is a macOS utility that automatically converts video files into animated GIFs without user interaction. After selecting a folder to monitor, any movie placed or moved into that directory is instantly processed, producing a GIF saved alongside the original file. The same conversion can be triggered by dragging a video onto the application window or its dock icon, offering a quick manual alternative.

The software leverages ffmpeg and ImageMagick under the hood to handle the transcoding, and it provides a simple setting to adjust the output frame rate, allowing users to balance file size against visual smoothness. It runs on macOS 10.10 and later, operating as a background service that watches the designated folder continuously.

Drop to GIF is intended for users who need rapid, hands‑off creation of GIFs from video clips, such as designers, content creators, or anyone who frequently shares short animated previews. Contributions are welcomed through the project's issue tracker.
