Gifski
Convert videos to high-quality GIFs. ![Open-Source Software][OSS Icon] ![Freeware][Freeware Icon]
Gifski is a macOS application that wraps the open‑source `gifski` encoder to turn video files into animated GIFs. It leverages `pngquant` for efficient cross‑frame palettes and temporal dithering, allowing the output to contain thousands of colors per frame and frame rates up to 50 FPS. Users can also reduce size and quality via a slider that employs `gifsicle`. The app accepts any video format supported by macOS, such as MP4 or MOV with H.264, HEVC, or ProRes, and provides options for dimensions, speed, cropping, looping, and alpha channel support.
The interface includes a Share extension and a system service, enabling quick conversion from the macOS Share menu or Services menu in any application that supplies a compatible video. Additional features include a bounce playback mode that reverses frames for a yo‑yo effect, and keyboard shortcuts for adjusting size and copying or saving the resulting GIF.
Gifski is distributed through the Mac App Store and as a non‑App‑Store zip, requiring macOS 10.14 or later. Source builds are possible with Rust and Xcode, and the project is open‑source and free to use.
