jmc
Media organiser
jmc provides a macOS‑native media manager and player that emphasizes a clean, unobtrusive interface while handling large music collections with low CPU and RAM usage. It replaces the default Music app by offering consistent keyboard controls, rapid pause/play actions, and a stable view that does not shift focus unexpectedly. The application integrates with Apple Music and iCloud Music Library and supports LAN sharing for streaming or transferring tracks between nearby instances.
Organization tools include a library manager that tracks album artwork, PDFs, logs, cue sheets, and other metadata, allowing flexible arrangement of files across internal and external volumes. A location manager helps relocate missing files after moves or transfers, and advanced search lets users filter by arbitrary criteria and build smart playlists. Shared libraries can be accessed over Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, or peer‑to‑peer connections, enabling drag‑and‑drop media exchange.
jmc is open‑source, written in Swift, and runs on macOS 10.15 or later. Users may choose to let the program move or copy files during import, or keep the original layout untouched, and an iTunes library can be imported via its XML file.
