Koharu
ML-powered manga translator
Koharu is a Rust‑based application that processes manga pages through a full pipeline: optical character recognition, image inpainting, translation via local or remote large language models, review, and export. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, supporting both a graphical desktop interface and a headless mode that exposes a local web UI on a configurable port. The runtime can be invoked from scripts or integrated with automation tools, allowing batch processing and repeatable workflows without a visible window.
The software includes support for local model inference through llama.cpp, handling GGUF models with CUDA, Vulkan, or Metal acceleration. Users can keep all data and models on the local machine, preserving privacy while still accessing powerful translation capabilities. A built‑in MCP (multi‑client protocol) lets external agents interact with the same translation engine, enabling coordinated tasks such as batch translation, review loops, and custom tooling.
Koharu is distributed as source code that can be built with Bun and Rust, offering a stable, production‑ready platform for developers and translators who need a customizable, locally hosted manga translation pipeline.
