Muxie runs in the background on macOS and automatically records tracks played through Apple Music, Spotify Desktop, and compatible portable players. When a song reaches its midpoint it is queued for submission to the user’s Last.fm account, keeping the listening history up to date without manual intervention. The app also displays basic statistics—play counts for the current song, artist, and album, as well as top‑artist and top‑track lists for various time periods—and provides a one‑click link to the full Last.fm profile.

For hardware users, Muxie can scan iPod Classic, Rockbox‑powered devices, and any player that generates a .scrobbler.log file. After connecting the device, the software lets the user select which recorded plays should be scrobbled, ensuring that older or hacked players contribute to the Last.fm record. An offline queue stores scrobbles when the internet is unavailable, and they are sent automatically once connectivity resumes.

The application is free to use, positioned as a stable, native macOS solution for users who want seamless integration of their diverse listening sources with Last.fm. It emphasizes privacy by only handling the data needed for scrobbling and offers a simple “love” button to mark favorite tracks directly from the interface.
