NewsBlur
Personal news reader that brings people together to talk about the world. A new sound of an old instrument.
NewsBlur is a personal RSS‑based news reader that displays the original site content while offering filtering tools that learn from user feedback. It pushes stories in real time, supports full‑text search, tagging, and multiple layout options, and lets users share stories publicly or privately through a blurblog. The platform also integrates email newsletters, YouTube channels, and third‑party feed readers, and provides AI‑assisted story analysis and daily briefings.
The software is built with Django, Backbone.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and optional Elasticsearch, and it runs in Docker containers for easy self‑hosting. Users can install the full stack with a single make command, then access the web interface locally or via native iOS, Android, and macOS apps. Documentation includes commands for managing migrations, logs, tests, and feed discovery.
NewsBlur is released under the MIT license, offers a free tier for up to 64 sites, and does not require a subscription for self‑hosted instances. Its open‑source nature allows full control over data and customization while providing a feature‑rich, cross‑platform reading experience.
